Health Care Assistant
Reports To: Care Manager
Function
The Healthcare Assistant works as a member of a team delivering care to the Sisters of Mercy. As a team member the Care Assistant contributes to the fulfilment of philosophy of care, ensuring the Sisters privacy, dignity, respect and choice.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Enable and assist the sisters to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance
· Enable and assist the sisters to eat and drink
· Enable and assist the sisters to access and use toilet facilities, participating in individual continence promotion programmes
· Enable and assist the sisters to maintain and improve their mobility
· Contribute to the movement and treatment of the sisters to maximise their physical comfort
· Enable and assist the sisters to achieve physical comfort
· Promote mobility of the sisters, supervising and assisting as necessary to ensure the sisters retains optimum mobility
· Maintain high level of communication between the sistersfamily and staff developing good relationships
- Participate in organising and carrying out social activities
- Assisting in the maintenance of a high standard of cleanliness in the care setting
- Contributes to the maintenance of Health and Safety in the Home
- General hygiene duties
- Care of the sistersclothing and property
- Assist with outings and activities
- Participate in an induction programme and ongoing staff training
- Any other duties deemed necessary by the Care Manager
Awareness of following essential:

What are the qualifications, skills and experienced required?
· QQi Level 5 in healthcare
· Has experience of working in a Residential care setting
· Working experience of HIQA Standards and Health Act Regulations 2013
· Fluent in English language (verbal and written) and be eligible to work in Ireland
· Strong communication and listening skills
· Work well with and lead the team
· Caring and compassionate, and be passionate about providing high quality person-centred care
